Join Hotdoodle Link Exchange

Search placement increases as more websites link into your website. HotDoodle websites can participate in automatic link exchanges with other HotDoodle websites. The domains for the website can be added to a link pool, and once added every website in the pool will instantly and automatically have 2 outgoing links to that domain with the search terms of your choice. Similarly, your website will link to theirs, but these links are done in a way that only web walkers (e.g. search engines) are likely to find them.

Note: To participate in the HotDoodle Link Exchange you must have a domain associated with your HotDoodle website.

Get the Link Pool Name

HotDoodle can support any number of independent link pools, and a link pool manager decides who can join. The link pool manager chooses a name for the link pool and anybody who knows that name can join. Those who join must trust the link pool manager to decide who else may join that link pool.

If you have multiple HotDoodle sites or know other site owners you can start a link pool. Otherwise you can write to help@hotdoodle.com and ask to be put in contact with a link pool manager.

Seeing your Link Pool

You can see the link pool for a site by browsing its automatic site map. To browse this site map, type in your domain name with the following at the end:
    ?action=sitemap&module=navigationmodule
and clicking on My Link Partners

For example, for the site http://bnitricities.com, the site map is at
   http://bnitricities.com?action=sitemap&module=navigationmodule
and the link pool is at
   http://bnitricities.com/?action=links&subtheme=_none&module=searchmodule

Note: The link pool is present only when the site is being browsed via a participating domain.  For example, while bnitricities.com has a link pool, http:://s1.hotdoodle.com/bnitricities does not because that name does not partipate as a domain in a link pool.

Link Exchange Notes
Participate or be removed

Domains in link pools must be walked every so often or the domain will automatically be removed from the link pool. Basically, if that domain is not having its outgoing links found, then it is a freeloader and should not be listed in the links of other sites.

The primary reasons for a domain not being walked is if that domain is expired, or if it does not point to the HotDoodle site.

Forwarded and Redirected Domains are Automatically Removed

Some domain vendors encourage domain redirection, but any domains that use forwarding or redirection will be automatically removed from the link exchange by the anti-freeloader detection engine.

Forwarded and redirected domains do not refer to your website. Instead they cause the visitor to browse somewhere else (even if this is masked). This may seem to point the domain to your HotDoodle site, but it really doesn't. Someone may browse http://yourdomain.com and end up at http://s5.hotdoodle.com/yoursite. The http://yourdomain.com domain is never browsed -- no traffic ever arrives at the server for that domain -- so the domain is inactive and freeloading.

Order of Displayed Links

The order of displayed links is random and changes every day for every site. With this listing way there is no preference given to any domain in the pool. Joining early or late does not matter. Having the random order change every day also helps keep the search engine attention as the pages seem new each time.

Showing the Link Partners Somewhere Else in Your Site

Normally the link pool is hidden and no humans ever find it. To see it, browse your site by one of the URLs in the link exchange and add the following to the end:
    ?action=links&subtheme=_none&module=searchmodule
To show the link pool to the public add a search block with the Link Exchange view.
