Recovering a Site

There are several things that can go wrong with a site

  • You might delete all ways to log in. The Emergency Login Page has what you need to recover.
  • You might chose a look or layout that is unreadable or set colors and backgrounds so as to make the site be unreadable. For example, you might set a dark black background on a site with black text and then be unable to read the text. The Emergency Login Page has what you need to recover.
  • You might delete allo menus and be unable to find your pages. The Emergency Login Page has what you need to recover.
  • You might need to go back to a prior point in time. See the subpage about backups and recovery.

Emergency Login Page

It is possible that you might have deleted all login blocks in a site. In this case you have two ways to login to your site no matter what.

  1. You may visit http://www.hotdoodle.com, login, and click on the open link next to the site listing in "My Stuff".  This will log you in with administrative priveledges.  (Only the site owner can do this.)
  2. You can visit the /login.php page such as http://bnitricities.com/login.php or http://userguide.hotdoodle.com/login.php.  The /login.php page is a page with a login block, a full site menu, and the ability to set look and layouts. It can be used to regain control of sites that have been eedited so as to be unuseable. This special page does not use your look, layout, colors, or headers and as such cannot be messed up by a bad choice for one of these.
