Adding Email Accounts

When you add en email account from the control panel, it can be either of the following:

  • Just a forwarding address -- all sent to it is immediately sent somewhere else. These are the easiest kinds of email accounts.
  • A true email account -- in these the email is stored on the HotDoodle server and must be read by webmail or an email client.

Once in the control panel you can use Add End User for a real mailbox, or Add Email Account for an address that just forwards.

Configuring Email for New Mailboxes

To have a new true mailbox you need to add a user. When you do so you will have to choose a username and an email address.

  • The username will have to be short, 12 characters or so. Whatever you enter will get a prefix. For example, you might choose a username of joeblow but the reall username assigned might be 23_joeblow.
  • Long email address are fine.  Joseph.Edward.Blowfish@mydomain.com would be OK.

When setting up an email client, the username there will be the one with the prefix. e.g. 23_joeblow
